Project Summary

Located in Bukit Rimau, Shah Alam, this private residence built in 2004 is punctuated with the two large fin walls that structure the logic of the house. As conceptual book – ends, these fins contain a linear sequence of spaces, the movement through the house is punctuated by a series of thresholds – visual, physical as well as notional elements – that signify transitions between private and public. A large courtyard ties the experiences together and forms the nexus to the other spaces. We used exposed form concrete casting methods to express the large fins as a counter to the white walls of the rest of the house, providing a visual anchor that draws the looker from observing a static object to looking at something more visually dynamic.
