Precinct 2A1 and 2A2 were the pioneer plots over a much larger site covering all of 330 acres. The brief was for Strata Shop-Offices, which at that time, was the first of its kind in Johor Bahru. Previous to this, all of the Shop-Office developments were sold based on individual titles. We wanted to design something that acknowledges the fact that over it’s lifespan, the Architecture might just disappear behind a screen of signals. Walk or drive through any Shop-Office district in Malaysia, and it’s never the architecture that stands out – it’s the media. The layers of signage fight with one another to stand out. Hence, we reduced the design to very simple lines, if anything we just wanted to play with the 3-Dimensionality of the facade, to create ins and outs that would not disappear behind a sea of graphics.
