Queensbay Mall was an existing shopping mall that was acquired by Capitaland Retail Malaysia Sdn Bhd, and we were approached to revisit it’s look and feel with something more modern. Our scope was limited to the Concept and Schematic Design Phase, with the implementation to be done by a local Penang consultant. Nevertheless, our proposal to Capitalland was to revamp the ceiling and articulate the skylight trusses together with the glass roof over the main atrium and make this the singular connecting factor and identity for the new mall. The material choices were light and neutral to allow the shops themselves to stand out.
